EMDR

You can’t seem to shake it…

“Why does that issue keep bothering me?”

Memories are powerful.

They can pop up at any given time leaving us with emotions we don’t know how to deal with. They can interfere with the life you are living today as well.

Thoughts and feelings of past painful events and traumas get sent up to the brain and remind us of past events and increase the reaction we have which may be disturbing. This makes it difficult to lead the best life and version of ourselves.

To move forward it’s necessary to resolve those issues.

‘Trigger’ is the term many people use to refer to something painful from their past that surfaces in the present moment.

EMDR can help you make sure your emotional reactions are to the present moment and not loaded with years of past emotion from one of your triggers.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic process that helps resolve painful or traumatic memories.

Dr. Francine Shapiro, the creator of EMDR, discovered that by stimulating the right and left brain back and forth lessened emotion distress. EDMR is evidence-based therapy and is endorsed by mental health organizations across the globe.

Every brain is unique and reprocesses traumatic memories. I use hand-held tappers (they buzz like the feel of a cell phone) to activate bilateral stimulation (BLS) to help the brain move the stuck memories. There is no hypnotism involved, nor is there any information that I place in your memories.

The impact of the memories are lessened. Using BLS, you begin to “desensitize” (that’s the D in EMDR) yourself to the memory. Once you are fully desensitized to that event, we then reprocess the negative belief that was attached to the event.

No matter what size trigger, EMDR can be helpful.

EMDR has been shown to help many issues including PTSD, Anxiety, Trauma, Abuse (emotional, physical, sexual), painful memories, performance anxiety, grief and loss, stress reduction, depression, and low confidence.

EMDR is also successful for treating panic attacks, complicated grief, phobias, emotional sensitivity, pain disorders, and disturbing memories.
