There has to be a better way of living.
Mike wonders if he needs to go to the hospital… if he needs to get help. He has a lump in his throat, pressure in his chest, and his heart is racing.
He’s tried lots of things but nothing seems to change. He can’t seem to shake it, and he can’t figure out where it’s coming from.
Things haven’t been right for a while now, and he’s still struggling to ask for help.
But he thinks that maybe… just maybe… things can be different if he gives it a chance.
More than just medicine…
Sara feels as though a heavy weight is on her shoulder. It keeps getting heavier, and she doesn’t know what to do.
Her family doesn’t understand. Her work doesn’t understand.
It takes every ounce of energy to get through the day. She is on medications for her depression, but it’s not enough to help her deal with her day-to-day issues.
She thinks she should try something in addition to her medications—that maybe adding therapy would be a better way to cope with her depression.
Dealing with the feelings…
Chris feels annoyed and quickly angers at almost everything these days. He feels so helpless sometimes, especially when there is so much pressure all around him to perform. At times he questions his decisions and feels so overwhelmed.
Was it something in the past that is buried deep in his subconscious mind that has not been dealt with? How does he cope with all these feelings?
It has negatively impacted his family and professional relationships.
He has tried many things to deal with the situation but without any progress. With therapy, though, he’s not alone in his struggles.
Is it really under control?
Linda spends her days making sure everyone and everything is taken care of, but there never seems to be enough time or energy left to take care of herself. She thinks it’s her responsibility to handle whatever comes her way.
She believes the sadness will just pass. Her anxiety comes and goes. She flies off the handle every once in a while, but it feels somewhat under control. She thinks.
Therapy can help.
Therapy is a scientifically proven process that teaches you how your mind works.
It helps you navigate your feelings, build better behaviors, and relate to your thoughts differently, so you can live the life you want.
Therapy is for any issue, big or small, that’s hindering your happiness.
Kelly asks herself, “Is anyone staring at me? I’m holding all this in, and I’m not so sure that I look ok.”
She feels silly asking for help when there are so many other people who have it way worse than she.
“Will the therapist think I’m ridiculous for having these problems? Will she think I’m crazy or ridiculous for bringing in my issues?”
Is it time to reach out for therapy?
Living life isolated doesn’t make things better, especially when we are hurting.
No matter how big or small your struggle feels, you aren’t expected to figure it out by yourself. You are not alone and don’t have to struggle alone.
Therapy can help anyone who wants to make positive change in life. I work with people who are just like you and me—people who are going through hard times, as we all do at some point… who are ready to see a change and feel better.
We come into this world as connected beings and are meant for connection until we leave this world.
When you’ve tried other options and they aren’t working…
When you’ve felt unhappy and unfulfilled for a while now…
When you’ve known something’s missing in life but are not sure where to start…
When you’re ready to make a commitment to a process that works…
When you have the time, energy, money to invest in your growth and happiness…
Individual therapy is a good option for you!
What we’ll do in a therapy session…
Therapy is your safe space, the place where you don’t have to perform or fake it. You can just be and allow your thoughts and emotions to emerge.
In therapy, we’ll develop a plan to get rid of what’s keeping you stuck and design your escape route.
You’ll learn skills to manage stress, replace self-sabotaging behaviors with winning actions, and discover what you have control over and what you don’t.
You’ll learn to take care of yourself and discover what you need and want to live the life you desire!
Some issues addressed in Individual therapy:
- Overcoming anxiety and depression
- Balance in your life
- Relief from chronic stress
- Improving relationships
- Healing from trauma
- Dealing with a demanding high stress job
- Navigating life transitions, such as divorce, career change, retirement, adoption, death of a love one
- Creating a more authentic and fulfilled life
There’s not a “one size fits all” approach. People become their best when we find what clicks. We will explore options together to find the best fit or combination for you. We can explore what’s keeping you stuck and what you’d like to achieve.
Here are some of the approaches we can use in therapy:
CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy)
This is an evidence-based type of psychotherapy based on the cognitive model. It is designed to help you look at your thoughts, feelings, and behavior. They are all connected.
The idea is that by changing unhelpful or inaccurate thinking, problematic behavior, or distressing emotional responses, it will help lead to new thoughts, behaviors, and actions.
Sara shared, “CBT has really helpe me think and deal with the world in more positive ways. It has really helped me to have the balanced life that I wanted.”
DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)
This is a modified version of CBT designed to help people increase their emotional and cognitive regulation by learning what triggers lead to reactive states.
It also aims to identify coping skills for those events, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to help avoid undesired reactions.
Jim shared, “DBT was very logical and helped me really focus on exact steps of changing to meet my goals.”
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR is a therapeutic process that helps resolve painful or traumatic memories. EDMR is evidence-based therapy and is endorsed by mental health organizations across the globe.
Kevin reported, “I was always terrified about something that happened in my childhood but couldn’t figure out how to make myself feel better. EMDR helped me to no longer be triggered by the event, and it made me feel so much more in control of my life.”
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)
Created by Gary Craig, an engineer and personal performance trainer at Stanford, EFT is a healing system based on principles of Chinese acupuncture using meridians/energy points to treat psychological and physical discomfort.
Kim reported, “I was not able to deal with my day-to-day feelings in a good way; but after learning some of the EFT techniques and several sessions about specific issues, I’m able to deal with my anxiety one day at a time more effectively. I feel more in control of myself, and things don’t bother me like they used to.”
Mindfulness
This is a way of training your mind to concentrate on the present in order to feel calm and improve your mental state.
Susan reported, “I was always worrying about someone or something else and was never able to be in the moment and appreciate the present. I was missing out on so much of my life. With mindfulness I’m able to really appreciate my life and the people around me.”
TIR (Traumatic Incident Reduction)
TIR is an evidence-based, highly structured method to address and eliminate the negative effects of past traumas. Sessions last 60-90 minutes.
Jim reported, “TIR was amazing! I was able to process through events of my life that baffled me; and, as a result, I no longer worry or focus on those things in my life.”
